ROAD SAFETY CANDLE-LIGHT EVENT AT KOPONG

This weekend, NPC participated in an annual road safety candlelight event on the 9th of September 2024 in Kopong. This event was organized by the Kopong Road Safety Club, which is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to raise awareness and sensitize the general public about issues of road safety. This event quests to remember those who lost their lives due to road accidents and extends prayers in solidarity in the fight against road accidents. The event began with a walk with proceedings at Kopong main Kgotla. Giving her remarks on behalf of NPC was Ms. Tshoganetso Lesomo, who noted that road safety is not just about statistics but the lives of the people, who are our loved ones, friends, and members of societies in our communities. Road Safety is a priority under Vision 2036, especially given that road accidents are a significant cause of injury and death in Botswana. By focusing on these road safety initiatives, Botswana’s Vision 2036 aims to save lives, support economic growth, and build a safer, more inclusive society. The commitment aims to significantly reduce the number of accidents and save lives, foster safer roads and promote sustainable development as a reflection of the broader goals of Vision 2036 to enhance quality of life. The NPC team also set up a stall to raise awareness on NPC mandate and strategic interventions. The Vision 2036 was the most popular in discussions with the members of the public. Other stakeholders present at the event were the Botswana Police Services, the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) and the Botswana Red Cross Society.
